AUSTIN — Who run the world? Girls.

Beyoncé once sang those immortal words, but Tom Felton echoed them at the SXSW premiere of horror-comedy-action-thriller "They Will Kill You" Tuesday, March 17. The bloody good time, directed by Kirill Sokolov, closed out the film festival as a gasping, guffawing audience couldn't get enough of the female-forward cast led by Zazie Beetz, Patricia Arquette, Myha'la and Heather Graham.

The film – without giving much away – is about a young woman fighting for her life after accidentally landing in a Satanic cult's lair. Expect wild stunts and unexpected twists and turns along the way as she fights her way against the demonic cult's members.

Zazie Beetz leads the star-studded cast of "They Will Kill You."

"I want to shout out (Sokolov), because usually there's a bunch of guys in the movie, there's one female character and he wrote a lot of great female characters," Graham told SXSW audience members in a Q&A after the film.

But if any of the cast could lead their own cult, what would theirs be about? Let's just say the evil characters in the movie would probably be disappointed.

"I was voted today by the cast as the person they would want to lead them in a cult," Arquette told USA TODAY on the red carpet ahead of the premiere. "I thought about it after they said that. Candy, we have candy bowls, whatever kind of candy you want, you can have once in a while. Our cult is about loving yourself and being nice to everybody else. And arts and crafts."

Felton's cult sounded similar – "In a world where we can be anything, my cult stands for being kind" – as did Beetz's: "It would be the cult of love, and we'd all love and hug and kiss and run around and go swimming together."

1 / 0SXSW 2026 is here: See Nick Jonas, Elle Fanning, more stars step out

The red carpet at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas, is heating up. Celebrities like Nick Jonas, Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer and Elijah Wood are showing out to SXSW to debut new films and series. The festival, held this year from March 12 to March 18, is seeing premieres like "Margo's Got Money Troubles," "Power Ballad" and "Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come."

Graham leaned a bit more into a health and wellness mindset. "I would lead a foodie cult where basically food snobs go there and you are only allowed to eat the absolute best food. And I think you all have to cook for each other. It's very high standard of eating and food, and also healthy, working out, yoga, things like that."

Myha'la laid out a more niche vision, too. "I feel like it would be like a cuteness cult that's really for the girls and the gays. It's a safe space. I know this is what every cult is advertising, but mine really is safe," she said with a mischievous smile.
