Zara Larsson hopped on a remix of PinkPantheress' "Stateside," and the collaboration is proving to be a success

"I love her. I think she's so cute and very, very, very talented," Larsson tells PEOPLE of PinkPantheress

Upon the remix's release, however, Larsson worried she was replaced on the track with Kylie Minogue

Hopping on a remix of PinkPantheress' "Stateside" was a fun experience for Zara Larsson.

The two pop stars linked up for a new version of "Stateside" released in October 2025 on PinkPantheress' Fancy Some More? project. The collaboration is currently charting on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and they released a music video on Jan. 15.

Larsson, 28, was quite excited to work with PinkPantheress, 24. "I love her. I think she's so cute and very, very, very talented. She's unapologetically herself, which I love, and she's doing things her own way," the "Midnight Sun" singer tells PEOPLE. "She's also very smart and funny."

Their "Stateside" remix came together shortly after Larsson reached out to PinkPantheress with a simple message of admiration. "I actually DM'ed her two days before she asked me to jump on the remix, like, ‘Queen.’ I think that's all I said," she explains with a laugh.

"She was like, ‘Hey queen.’ I just went, ‘I love you.’ I wanted to show some love. I was on a love spree. I just DM'ed a bunch of pop girlies, like, ‘Queen.’ I just want to appreciate all the girls who are killing it," adds the Grammy-nominated artist.

PinkPantheress then pitched the idea for a collaboration. "I was like, ‘Duh, I would love that.’ And she was like, ‘I’m doing this remix album. Are you down to do a song?’ I was like, ‘Yes,'" recalls Larsson, who recorded her verse "somewhere in middle America" while opening for Tate McRae's Miss Possessive Tour.

"It was cute, boom boom boom boom boom, wrote my verse, sent it in, and then it was out like four days later," she says.

Upon the release of Fancy Some More?, Larsson worried for a moment that she didn't make the album's final cut — especially since she saw Kylie Minogue was featured on a remix of "Stateside."

"I got really scared, like, 'Oh my God, what if she hated it? I thought she liked it,'" says Larsson. "But then it turned out she had, like, a million people on the remixes, which I think is actually a really fun way to do it."

The "Lush Life" singer appears on one of four remixes of "Stateside," while the others feature Minogue, Bladee and Groove Armada, respectively.

"People also seem to like it, which makes me really excited," adds Larsson.

She seems to be correct. Her version of "Stateside" with PinkPantheress has reached No. 83 on the Hot 100 so far, and the music video (directed by Charlotte Rutherford) earned nearly 10 million views in less than 10 days.
