Kate Hudson admits to PEOPLE that she does not answer emails and that it’s best to give her a call

“I tell people, really honestly, that I hate email,” the Song Sung Blue star says

She adds, “If you’re going to send me an email and think that I’m going to get it or read it, good luck!”

Kate Hudson has had a whirlwind year.

Two highly acclaimed projects have bookended her 2025. With her Netflix comedy series Running Point having premiered in February and her musical biopic Song Sung Blue hitting theaters on Christmas Day, the actress and singer, 46, remains busier than ever.

“I have to say for myself, personally, I think this is the busiest I’ve been since my twenties,” the Golden Globe nominee tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “It’s been a really interesting time.”

In trying to keep a good work-life balance, Hudson says she’s learned how to honor her boundaries. One rule she’s not letting up on? Answering emails.

“My new thing is, I tell people, really honestly, that I hate email,” she admits. “I don’t like it, I don’t want to look at a thousand emails a day. It ruins my day.”

“So, if you’re going to send me an email and think that I’m going to get it or read it, good luck!” Hudson notes. “I’d rather get on the phone with someone.”

As a working mom of three, Hudson explains that answering emails is too much to tackle.

“If you’ve got multiple businesses or multiple work things and kids on top of it, and you’re being sent email after email after email, there’s this sort of expectation that that’s the communication,” she says.

“We all need reminders or make sure that we have confirmations and things like that, but I don’t like the fact that because you have email, that means that on the weekend you’re supposed to answer them.”

“Then you go and you’re like, ‘Wait, I have 500 emails and it would take me two days to actually respond to all of these,’” she continues. “So, email’s out for me.”

She adds, “I can’t and my creative brain won’t.”

The Song Sung Blue star has been the focus of award season buzz for her portrayal of Claire Sardina in the upcoming film based on the true story of the Neil Diamond tribute band, Lightning & Thunder.

Hudson stars alongside Hugh Jackman, 57, as the husband and wife musical duo who formed their cover band in 1989 in a tribute to the “Sweet Caroline” singer. The movie follows Lightning & Thunder as their relationship turns from professional to romantic.

“I really hope people see the movie,” Hudson told PEOPLE at the Academy and Chanel Women’s Luncheon on Nov. 4. “I really want the movie to have the success that I think it deserves, and because I want people to make more movies like this.”

The actress is nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture for a Musical or Comedy at this season's Golden Globe Awards, to be held Jan. 11, 2026.

Song Sung Blue hits theaters on Christmas Day.
