After seven increasingly Shakespearean seasons, *Sons of Anarchy* rode off into the sunset in 2014, taking with it one of the most talented ensemble casts of the prestige TV era.

Kurt Sutter’s series offered a gritty, realistic look at the brotherhood of bikers in the titular motorcycle club. Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is left in charge of the organization in the wake of his father’s demise. Though he’s determined to right the group’s previous wrongs, he’s stymied by his fearsome mother Gemma (Katey Sagal) and her right-hand man Clay (Ron Perlman), who want the old-school values to remain.

*Sons of Anarchy* was praised for its stellar writing, operatic plotting, and cast of actors who breathed vivid life into their characters, giving even the most savage moments a dose of humanity. Read on as * *rundowns of what the *Sons of Anarchy* stars have been up to since the series ended.

Charlie Hunnam (Jackson “Jax” Teller)

Charlie Hunnam plays Jax, the Vice President (and later President) of the eponymous chopper club and son of a founding member, John Teller. He’s torn between his allegiance to his father’s peers, who want to keep the club the way it’s always been, and his own desire to push the group away from its more sordid elements.

In large part, his high-minded intentions are about his desire to have a traditional family with Tara, a doctor who wants little to do with the gang. As the series goes on, Jax morphs from a generally good-hearted guy into a violent, devious antihero.

The role was equally transformative role for Hunnam himself.

“Frankly, it gave me a career. And it gave me the ability to have confidence that I was going to be able to make [acting] work,” Hunnam told PEOPLE in 2019. “I went into *Sons of Anarchy* being a pretty unaccomplished actor in terms of my skill set. I wasn't one of these people that were born enormously and innately talented. I had to really cultivate a skill set. And where I cultivated a lot of that skill set was going to work and shooting 10 pages a day on *Sons of Anarchy* for seven years. I feel like that was my college days.”

The British actor made his name on the original U.K. version of *Queer as Folk *(1999–2000) and eventually caught attention stateside on Judd Apatow’s college sitcom *Undeclared *(2001–2002). He later took Elijah Wood under his wing in *Green Street Hooligans *(2005) before finding a home with Sutter’s biker gang.

Since then, he’s made himself a regular presence on the big screen, working with Guillermo del Toro* *for *Pacific Rim* (2013) and *Crimson Peak* (2015), while earning praise for his lead role in *The Lost City of Z *(2017). The actor later appeared in *King Arthur: Legend of the Sword *(2017), then reunited with Guy Ritchie for his crime caper *The Gentlemen *(2019).

Most recently, Hunnam earned his first Golden Globe nomination for playing real-life serial killer Ed Gein in *Monster: The Ed Gein Story *(2025).

Katey Sagal stars as Jax’s mother, the widow of the club’s co-founder and a fearsome mover in her own right. Inspired by Hamlet’s mother, Queen Gertrude, Gemma is the ultimate helicopter (motorcycle?) parent, who controls her son’s life and will stop at nothing to keep her beloved club on course.

The show was created by Sutter, to whom Sagal has been married since 2004. “He wrote this world which sort of had a *Hamlet* arc about it, and there was definitely the mother of our Hamlet,” she told NPR. “So he came to me as he was writing it, and said ‘I think I have a part for you’… I didn’t really know what it was until I actually read the script.”

One of the most veteran members of the cast, Sagal has paved a memorable career over nearly five decades. Best remembered as Peg Bundy on *Married… with Children *(1987–1997), she played a very different sort of mother on *8 Simple Rules* (2002–2005) and voices intergalactic cyclops Leila on *Futurama *(1999–present).

She has been a mainstay on TV for decades, including years of a semi-regular role on *The Conners *(2018–2025) and a brief reprisal as Gemma on Sutter’s spinoff, *Mayans M.C. *(2018).

Sagal and Sutter have one daughter together. She also has two children from a previous marriage.

“When [Kurt] came into my life, I already had two children, and he's their step-parent, and I was very protective of my children. He hadn’t been around that kind of energy quite so much, so I think that's what was the springboard for Gemma,” she told NPR. “It was not so much the heinous things she does; it was that at her core, her motivation is her children... At any cost, she will protect him and her club.”

The couple recently teamed up again, as she appeared in a pair of episodes of his Netflix Western series, *The Abandons *(2025), starring Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.

Ron Perlman (Clarence “Clay” Morrow)

Clay Morrow begins as Jax’s right-hand man and primary confidant, but over the course of the series morphs into a dangerous nemesis. What’s the best way to make your antagonist a truly intimidating figure? Hire Ron Perlman to play him.

The veteran actor is best known as the title character in Guillermo del Toro’s *Hellboy* films, but their working relationship goes back to the director’s 1992 debut, *Cronos*. Perlman has since played colorful figures in *Blade II *(2002), *Pacific Rim *(2013)*, *and *Nightmare Alley *(2021).

Early in his career, Perlman was the Beast to Linda Hamilton’s Beauty on the acclaimed, modernized spin on *Beauty and the Beast *(1987–1990). Since then, his voice and physical presence have been in high demand across Hollywood. His recognizable film work includes *Alien: Resurrection *(1997), *Drive *(2010), *Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them *(2016), and *Don’t Look Up* (2021).

“When I’m sitting on my rocking chair in the old age home, and all the other actors are sitting there thinking about great moments in their lives, I’ll be thinking about the chapel scenes with Tig on my right and Jax on my left, me at the head of the table where I’m smoking cigars and we’re making plans, kicking ass and taking names,” Perlman told EW in 2013. “To me, was quintessential *Sons of Anarchy*.”

The born and bred New Yorker shares two children with his ex-wife. He has been married to actress Allison Dunbar since 2022.

Kim Coates (Alexander “Tig” Trager)

As Clay’s primary enforcer and the club’s sergeant-at-arms, ex-Marine Tig finds himself at the heart of countless thorny confrontations, pulled in opposing directions by his allegiance to Clay and Jax’s official authority.

One of his generation’s most recognizable faces, Kim Coates has appeared in the likes of *Bad Boys* (1995), *Black Hawk Down* (2001), *Silent Hill* (2006), *Open Range *(2003), and *Goon* (2011).

The veteran actor has made a living on TV guest spots, from *Smallville *(2007) to *Prison Break *(2006–2009) to *American Primeval *(2025). He also recently booked a stint on *The Walking Dead: Dead City *(2025).

The native Canadian has been married to Diana Chappell since 1984. They have two children.

Mark Boone Junior (Robert “Bobby Elvis” Munson)

With his distinctive locks and perpetual beard, Mark Boone Junior was practically born to play a biker. He portrays Bobby, one of the crew’s cooler-tempered members — though that’s a relative statement given the violent company he keeps.

The character serves as Jax’s main supporter and confidant until they’re pushed apart by divergent ideologies. Bobby is also seemingly the sole member of the club who’s in it for the motorcycles rather than the conflict.

“Bobby was the oldest standing member of the club… very much an uncle to Jax when he was growing up — very involved with him when he was younger,” the actor told EW in 2014. “That side was never really, really talked about or explored in the series, but those are things that functioned with me all the time. That’s how I approached every day with the Jax-Bobby relationship.”

Boone has put his presence to good use for decades, popping up in *Armageddon* (1998), *2 Fast 2 Furious *(2003), and Christopher Nolan’s *Memento* (2000) and *Batman Begins* (2005). On the small screen, he’s booked key guest roles on *The Last Man on Earth *(2016–2017), *Patriot *(2017–2018), and *The Mandalorian *(2019).

Maggie Siff (Dr. Tara Knowles)

Maggie Siff plays Jax’s high-school sweetheart and eventual wife, Tara, who was raised by a hard-drinking father in a less-than-stable environment. As a result, she’s not exactly thrilled when Jax takes a role opposite his controlling mother in the motorcycle club. But she has her own dark past, which occasionally requires Jax’s intervention.

“I think it’s interesting the way it’s developed because she definitely was the moral center of the show for a while. I think Kurt used her as a window, through which the audience could experience the club and the life of the club. You could see her loving these people in spite of herself,” Siff told EW in 2013. “I think she remained a moral center in that she continues to be one of the only in the world who experiences real emotional conflict around the violence and the difficulty and the pain of the life and wanting something better for her children.”

Best known for series regular gigs on both *Sons of Anarchy* and *Billions *(2016–2023), Siff also made an impression as one of Don Draper’s season 1 affairs on *Mad Men *(2007–2015).

The actress has one daughter with her late husband, who died in 2021.

Theo Rossi (Juan Carlos “Juice” Ortiz)

Theo Rossi plays Juice, who serves as the gang’s intelligence officer. It's a somewhat ironic title considering he seemingly possesses little intellect beyond computer-based tasks. In later seasons, law enforcement officers investigating the club use Juice’s second-tier position to turn him against his fellow members.

“I really just enjoyed every single second of my *SOA* journey. The love, the hate, the stirring of emotions in people that I get to see every day from fans,” Rossi told TV Line. “I got to work with every single actor in a really intimate sense. It’s changed my life forever.”

The role led to even higher-profile work for the actor, including regular gigs on *Luke Cage *(2016–2018) and* The Penguin *(2024). In addition to roles in *Army of the Dead *(2021) and *Carry-On *(2024), he earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his role in *Emily the Criminal *(2022).

Rossi wed Meghan McDermott in 2014. The couple shares two sons.
