Surprises await Nora and co. as When Hope Calls: Brookfield returns for season 3.
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the trailer for the new season of the Great American Family drama, which features familiar faces including Cindy Busby (Nora), Christopher Russell (Fletcher), Sarah Fisher (Hannah), Nick Bateman (Wyatt), Trevor Donovan (Jim), Jon McLaren (Sam), Hanneke Talbot (Maggie), Wendy Crewson (Tess) and Jesse Hutch (Jerry). The trailer also introduces the newest resident of Brookfield: Jillian Murray, who plays entrepreneur and investor Justine Marcel.
The first look at season 3 emphasizes the growing bonds among the community, with Nora and friends reassuring Hannah, "You have us." Elsewhere, some sparks seem to fly between Constable Jim Reynolds and newcomer Justine as she reveals she's heading into town, and Nora meets Brookfield's new reverend (Simon Arblaster).

Season 2 ended on a pair of cliffhangers as Nora found herself in some potential legal trouble as the town's ranches dealt with some dramatic cattle raids.
The official logline for the premiere episode, "Gratitude," teases, "As Brookfield begins to recover from the cattle raids, the Mounties (Russell, Donovan) close in on the true mastermind while Tess (Crewson) is captured by wounded outlaw Jerry Huntsman (Hutch), who admits his role in the crimes. Meanwhile, Hannah (Fisher) struggles to keep up her fashion design work while also being a good co-worker to Wyatt (Bateman), Debbie (Kyana Teresa) plans a permanent bakery, Sam (McLaren) and Maggie (Talbot) make their commitment official, Nora (Busby) is moved when Charlotte (Jasper Green) climbs stairs with the help of a guide dog, and the town quietly moves toward healing and unity."

Busby, 43, tells PEOPLE that Nora is "in a little bit of a pickle" as the new season begins. "We pick up right where we left off from the second season," she says. "At the end of season 2, Nora was left hanging that her old boss was potentially bribing a judge, and she may be involved. And of course, this is 1920, a woman who's working in law. So already that's a miracle. Let alone, now she might be in trouble with the law herself."
Her potential legal troubles could also dampen the blossoming romance between Nora and Fletcher.

"Her love interest, Mountie Michael Fletcher, is protecting the law. So she finds herself in a little bit of a pickle of, how am I going to move forward knowing this information without it compromising the future of my potential relationship with Mountie Fletcher?" she adds.
Add in the arrival of her old boss, and the season promises to be a big one for Nora as she balances her legal troubles, her job as a lawyer and her growing role at the orphanage.
"I really got to have some meaty scenes this season," she says. "Nora, who's now taken over the orphanage and is really the matriarch of the orphanage for all of these children, but then also showing up as a lawyer and trying to find answers as to what happened and how she has been implicated in all of this."

Inspired by Janette Oke's When Hope Calls novels, the series first premiered as a spinoff of the Hallmark Channel's long-running series When Calls the Heart in 2019. Two years later, it was revived for a two-part special on Great American Family, before being picked up for a second season featuring a mostly new cast.
