HBO has returned for its third voyage into Westeros, this time following the story of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter SolAnsell) in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Unlike the sprawling political epics of Game of Thronesand House of the Dragon, this series shifts the focus to a smaller, more intimate corner of the world, though a tale of two unlikely wanderers is nothing new to the universe built by George R. R. Martin.
The series is based on the author’s beloved The Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the show follows Duncan, a young hedge knight, and Egg, his small yet sharp squire, as they travel across the land. Their journey unfolds in a Westeros where Targaryens still rule.

What is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms about?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on George R. R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas and is set roughly a century before the events of Game of Thrones, during a time when the Targaryens still rule Westeros. The series follows Ser Duncan the Tall, a young hedge knight who acquires the services of a young squire named Egg. The first season adapts The Hedge Knight, in which Duncan arrives at a grand tourney hoping to compete, only to become entangled in more complicated matters. Rather than focusing on wars for the Iron Throne, the story is more intimate and character-driven.
