Gwyneth Paltrow isn't sure how Pepper Potts has been keeping busy since Avengers: Endgame.

The actress says, "I haven't seen any of" the Marvel movies for "story context for what she's doing."

Paltrow also isn't sure if Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark is alive or dead: "I don't know. I can't keep track."

Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't know what Pepper Potts has been doing these days.

The Shakespeare in Love star shares her thoughts on her Marvel Cinematic Universe character's whereabouts in a recent conversation with host Gerrad Hall on The Awardist podcast.

"To be honest, I think I would've had to see all the Avengers movies to get some story context for what she's doing," Paltrow said of her character, who was first introduced in 2008's Iron Man and last appeared in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. "I haven't seen any of them, so I don't know."

After working as a personal assistant for Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and subsequently becoming the CEO of his company Stark Industries, Pepper began a romantic relationship with her former boss at the end of Iron Man 2. They remained a couple in all of Paltrow's subsequent MCU appearances — The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame — and welcomed a daughter together before Tony died at the conclusion of that last film.

(She also got Extremis superpowers in Iron Man 3 and her own high-tech suit of armor in Endgame, though neither of those threads has been addressed in subsequent MCU projects.)

Paltrow considers how Pepper has lived on in Tony's absence. "She's been raising a kid and doing spreadsheets," she says. "Maybe she's on some boards and doing some advisory work, and maybe she's dating."

That last point prompts some confusion. "Or did they bring Robert back to life?" she asks of her former costar. "I don't know. I can't keep track."

Downey is returning to the MCU in 2026's Avengers: Doomsday, though he's set to play the villainous Victor Von Doom rather than the Tony Stark we know and love. It's possible that Downey's Doom will be a multiversal variant of Tony from an alternate reality, but the character's background has yet to be disclosed by the actor or the filmmakers. And there's no indication that the original Tony will return in any capacity. All that is to say: we can't keep track, either.

Paltrow can currently be seen in Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme, a ping-pong dramedy that also stars Timothée Chalamet, Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma (a.k.a. Tyler, the Creator), Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher. The film marks Paltrow's first film performance since Endgame, and her first non-MCU film since 2015's Mortdecai.
