Danny Ramirez has seen the last of the post-apocalyptic landscape of The Last of Us.

The role of Manny, which Ramirez played in the second season, will be recast for season 3 due to scheduling conflicts, Entertainment Weekly can confirm.

When the character was first announced for season 2, he was described as "a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he will fail his friends when they need him most." Throughout the second season, Manny is introduced as a former member of the Fireflies, who survived the hospital massacre carried out by Joel (Pedro Pascal) in the season 1 finale.

He teams up with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and her crew to get revenge for their fallen friends and loved ones. It's unclear at this time who will take up the mantle of the character. In the video game series upon which the show is based, Alejandro Edda first played Manny.

Ramirez's departure is one of several changes to the upcoming third season. In July, Neil Druckmann, the co-creator of the original video games, announced that he was leaving his post as co-showrunner of the HBO series ahead of the new season. While he will no longer serve as writer or director, he will remain attached to the show as a co-creator and executive producer, EW reported at the time.

Fellow co-creator, Craig Mazin, remains as sole showrunner on the series.

"I've made the difficult decision to step away from my creative involvement in The Last of Us on HBO," Druckmann said in a statement at the time. "With work completed on season 2 and before any meaningful work starts on season 3, now is the right time for me to transition my complete focus to Naughty Dog and its future projects, including writing and directing our exciting next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, along with my responsibilities as Studio Head and Head of Creative."

The statement continued, "Co-creating the show has been a career highlight. It's been an honor to work alongside Craig Mazin to executive produce, direct, and write on the last two seasons. I'm deeply thankful for the thoughtful approach and dedication the talented cast and crew took to adapting The Last of Us Part I and the continued adaptation of The Last of Us Part II. I look forward to HBO and PlayStation Productions continuing Ellie and Abby's story next season."

The third season will also be without writer Halley Gross, who helped shape both the story of the Part II video game and season 2 of the television adaptation. She announced on Instagram, also in July, that she wouldn't return for season 3 in order "to make space for what comes next."
