Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have lived in the U.S.āCalifornia specifically, her home stateāfor six years.
The two moved to Montecito, California after they stepped back as working royals in 2020 and are raising kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet there.
That said, the Duke of Sussex apparently is āholding out hopeā that he can āeventually divide his timeā between his new home in the U.S. and the place he grew up in the U.K.
Prince Harry himself has been outspoken about missing his life in the U.K., where he was born and raised and lived until he and wife Meghan Markle relocated to the U.S. in 2020, six years ago.
Harry said in a revealing BBC interview last May that he missed the āfamily gatherings when weāre all sort of brought together under one roof for certain times of the year. That I miss,ā possibly referring to the royal familyās traditional Christmas celebrations at Sandringham. He also added, āI miss my friends. Iāve lost a few friends in this process,ā no doubt referring to leaving royal life for Montecito, California.

āDoes it pain Harry to be pointedly excluded from times when the royal family gets together, like Christmas at Sandringham?ā royal biographer Christopher Andersen told Us Weekly for its new cover story. āOf course it does.ā
A possible solution? Splitting his time between the life heās built in the U.S. and the life he knows so well in the U.K. Andersen said that āHarry has always said the door remains open to some sort of relationship with the royal family. Meghanās focused on their life in Montecito, but heās holding out hope that he can eventually divide his time between California and the U.K.ā

Andersen told the outlet of the Duke of Sussex that āOn one level, Harry is content in California,ā but added that on another, he surely has regrets that āneither he nor his children [Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet] are sharing in their royal heritage.ā
Speaking to the BBC, Harry said, āThe things that [my kids are] going to miss is, well, everything.ā He added, āI love my country, I always have,ā and continued, āI think that itās really quite sad that I wonāt be able to show my children my homeland,ā citing a need for increased security in order to bring his kids and Meghan back to the U.K.

While āA few old pals have dropped off,ā Andersen said of Harryās friend circle, āseveral remain in touch, and Harry is immensely grateful for their loyalty.ā A source speaking to Us Weekly said that the often-strained relationship between Harry and his father King Charles is āgoing in a good directionā after father and son last saw one another face-to-face in September in a meeting that seemed to go well.

Andersen added that Harry āwants Archie and Lilibet to get to know their British relatives, especially their grandfather,ā referring to the King. He reportedly also wants his kids to get to know ātheir cousins, but he canāt make that happen unilaterally.ā
āTheyāre learning about Britain in small doses,ā Andersen said. āBut make no mistake, theyāre growing up Californians.ā
