CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy (AP) — Norway's curlers are back wearing their funky pants at the Winter Olympics.
The men's team's bold, diamond-printed trousers lit up Cortina Curling Center on Tuesday night, bringing back memories of the outlandish attire they donned at Winter Games in 2010, 2014 and 2018 in a break with tradition in a typically staid sport.
The Norwegians had worn classic curling pants previously in the men's competition this year, but turned to red, white and blue argyle for their match against Sweden.
Norway's crazy curling pants first attracted attention at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and they went viral, with even the Norwegian monarch, King Harald V, receiving a pair. They — the pants, not the curlers — quickly had a Facebook page that attracted nearly 700,000 followers.
Christoffer Svae, who was on Norway's Olympic curling team in 2010, '14 and '18, was the man behind the pants phenomenon. He isn't on the team for the 2026 Games.
