Mina Starsiak Hawk reflected on what she misses about her long-running HGTV series Good Bones during an interview with PEOPLE

“I miss everything other than the interpersonal issues,” she said, adding, “I loved making the show”

The HGTV star was candid about conflicts with her family during the home renovation series' eighth and final season in 2023

For Mina Starsiak Hawk, there’s a lot to miss about Good Bones two years after the beloved show aired its final episode.

“I miss everything other than the interpersonal issues,” the HGTV star tells PEOPLE of her long-running series, which wrapped its original run in October 2023 after eight seasons. “I loved making the show.”

Starsiak Hawk, who previously opened up about conflicts within her family (who are also her co-stars) during the making of the last season, adds that “the financial side of it” was the other challenging part.

“When I started, the real estate market was a different world, construction costs were different,” she explains. “And towards the last couple seasons, it was just the margins were so tight. There just wasn't really money to be made and that was stressful.”

Starsiak Hawk, who appears on the upcoming seventh season of HGTV's Rock the Block, adds that filming the series “was so fun.”

“I never set out to make TV, but I enjoy it and Rock the Block is not my money and it's not my house. So it's just the fun parts,” she adds.

Starsiak Hawk started her Indianapolis-based company, Two Chicks and a Hammer, with her mother, Karen E. Laine, in 2007. Laine stepped back from the company in 2019, but continued to appear on Good Bones alongside her daughter and their team.

In August 2023, Starsiak Hawk opened up about tension between her and her family on her podcast, Mina AF. She said she wasn't "in a great place" with either Laine or her brother Tad.

Following the original show’s conclusion, a three-episode spinoff of Good Bones premiered in August 2024. The limited series focused on "new beginnings" for the mother and daughter as they took on separate projects in different states.

However, she tells PEOPLE they’re starting to slowly mend the rift.

“It took us a lot of time to get there, so I think it takes a lot of time to kind of get out of it as well,” she says. And we were all together for the holidays, so we're all amicable.”

“We're not like best friends that braid each other's hair on Saturday nights or anything, but no, it's good,” she adds.

The renovation expert says she and her husband Steve Hawk, who share two children — son Jack, 7, and daughter Charlie, 5 — had a recent conversation reflecting on life since the end of Good Bones.

“For the last two years, since I stopped filming Good Bones, I've been saying, ‘Once it slows down, I'll figure out my new normal.’ And it hasn't. And I think it might this year, but I don't know,” she says.

Rock the Block season 7 will premiere in early 2026 on HGTV.
