Patrick Dempsey is showing viewers a different side of himself.
Dempsey, who played Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd for 11 seasons on Grey's Anatomy, has returned to TV, starring as a paid assassin in Memory of a Killer.
The new Fox thriller features Dempsey as Angelo Doyle, a seemingly normal suburban dad who sells photocopiers. But in actuality, he leads a secret double life as a hired hitman.
In the series, Angelo's two lives begin to overlap, and his memory starts to slip as he shows signs of early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
"Angelo has a family history of Alzheimer's. His older brother Michael's disease is progressing rapidly," Dempsey said in a first-look video.

According to Fox, Memory of a Killer is based on the 2003 Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer, which, per Deadline, also inspired the 2022 film Memory, starring Liam Neeson.

The first season of Memory of a Killer will have 10 episodes, per Deadline.
According to The New York Times, Dempsey was wary of starring in another TV series due to the potentially demanding schedule and other creative constraints.
But once the creators agreed to a "relatively short" first installment, the actor signed on to the project.
