As first lady Melania Trump gears up for the release of her eponymous documentary, the team behind the lens is emerging.
While the film itself was directed by Brett Ratner – a movie maker known for the "Rush Hour" franchise, who fell from grace after sexual assault allegations against him emerged in 2017 – the photography for "Melania" was shot by Ellen von Unwerth.
Von Unwerth, a famed photographer and once a model herself, has seen her work published in a wide array of fashion glossies from Vanity Fair to Vogue. Von Unwerth is behind the poster art for the new film, set to hit theaters Jan. 30.

The black-and-white photo shows Trump in a fitted suit with sky-high pumps. She sits in a chair, legs crossed, staring down the camera.
"This is something the fashion industry will not expect," Marc Beckman, the first lady's agent, said in a recent interview with Fox of von Unwerth's involvement. "They worked together years ago on a campaign, and, for obvious reasons, we thought it would be amazing to have Ellen involved."

Beckman said "Ellen and Melania have an incredible relationship," telling the outlet: "Ellen personally was an orphan when she was young, and she is very fond of Melania's work for the foster care community … It is just an interesting part of their relationship – a sensitive component which makes their relationship even stronger."

Melania Trump is back in office, accompanying her husband, President Donald Trump, during his second term in the White House as the 47th president of the United States. The first lady made many a fashion statement during Trump's first time in office, and she's continued to do that in 2025. The first lady donned a navy blue Adam Lippes coat and skirt with an ivory blouse, topped with a dramatic Eric Javits hat, during the festivities at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 20, 2025, in Washington, D.C.
The upcoming documentary "Melania" chronicles the 20 days leading up to Donald Trump's 2025 inauguration through the eyes of the first lady as she readies to transition her family back into the White House, according to Amazon, which will release the film. The controversial documentary will be the debut project from the first lady's new film production company, Muse Films, which she announced via social media in November.
It will be available to stream on Amazon Prime the same day as its theatrical release, following a high profile premeire at the newly named Trump-Kennedy Center on Thursday, Jan. 29.
"Melania" will be Ratner's first feature film since he was accused of sexual misconduct in 2017 by several women. Six accusers came forward amid the #MeToo movement, including actresses Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge. No criminal charges were filed against him.
