Meghan Markle is celebrating 2026 by sharing a throwback photo of herself and Prince Harry from 2016 and a new video taken by their daughter

"When 2026 feels just like 2016… you had to be there," she captioned the post, giving a video credit to 4-year-old Princess Lilibet

Meghan also shared a throwback photo from 2016, seemingly taken during the couple's trip to Botswana, which marked their third-ever date

Meghan Markle is celebrating 2026 by sharing a throwback photo of herself and Prince Harry from 2016 — as well as a brand-new video taken by their 4-year-old daughter.

On Friday, Jan. 16, the Duchess of Sussex shared her own take on a new social media trend, in which users are sharing photos of themselves from 2016 to celebrate a decade passing.

In a black and white video from the present day, Meghan, 44, and Harry, 41, are seen dancing in an open field. Dressed casually, the couple smiles as they twirl around together. Meghan revealed in the caption that the clip was filmed by Princess Lilibet.

The second slide of the post features a shot of the royal couple from 2016, seemingly taken during their trip to Botswana that year — their third-ever date.

"When 2026 feels just like 2016… you had to be there," she captioned the post, giving a video credit to "our daughter."

Harry and Meghan shared that they first met on a blind date in early July 2016 after being set up by a mutual friend and began officially dating that year. Meghan later told Vanity Fair that she and Harry were dating quietly for about six months before it became public.

"We met for a drink, and then I think very quickly into that we said, 'Well, what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.'" Meghan recalled during the pair's engagement interview. Meghan and Harry went on back-to-back dates in London in the following days.

Harry invited Meghan to visit Botswana later in the summer of 2016. He shared in their engagement interview, "We camped out with each other under the stars. She came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic. So then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to know each other."

Prince Harry later said it was during this trip that he knew Meghan was his "soulmate."

The pair also opened up about the trip in their Harry & Meghan docuseries, sharing that their escape to Botswana came after they had only met twice.

"I was astonished that she said, 'Yes,' " Harry recalled. "This woman, that I've really met twice, she's coming to Botswana, and we're gonna be living in a tent for five days!"

The couple announced their engagement on Nov. 27, 2017, and tied the knot on May 19, 2018.

Harry and Meghan bring Archie and Lilibet to Disneyland in 2025.

Princess Lilibet and her brother, Prince Archie, 6, are often kept out of the private eye by their parents, but the siblings have recently been featured in a number of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's photos — and some of their philanthropic work.

In their Christmas card, shared on Meghan's Instagram page on Friday, Dec. 19, the family of four could be seen outdoors on a small bridge over a creek. Meghan bends down and holds hands with her 4-year-old daughter, while 6-year-old Archie wraps Harry in a hug. It also highlights Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet's red hair, inherited from their father. ("The ginger gene is a strong one!" Harry joked in 2023.)

"Happy Holidays! From our family to yours," she captioned the snap.

Also on Dec. 19, Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, dropped a video featuring clips of their work with the newly renamed Archewell Philanthropies across the last several years, alongside a holiday greeting.

Archie and Lilibet also appeared in the video, which featured new footage from when they volunteered alongside their parents at Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles (OBKLA) ahead of Thanksgiving. The siblings can be seen helping prepare food and pushing a trolley of items with Meghan and Harry.
