Meghan and Prince Harry made their first-ever appearance at the annual event over the weekend in support of their latest documentary, Cookie Queens. They attended a special screening on Saturday, Jan. 24, followed by the film’s official premiere on Sunday, Jan. 25.

At the Saturday event, Meghan was seen comparing friendship bracelets with a young woman holding a multi-colored beaded band.

The following day, Meghan and Harry were photographed on the streets of Park City, Utah. When Meghan lifted her arm to wave, she could be seen wearing another friendship bracelet, with white beads on a neon green string.

It was a sweet accessory for Meghan, who emphasized that Cookie Queens' cute factor should not detract from its message while introducing the documentary at its early morning premiere.

“Yes, it’s probably the cutest film at the festival,” she told the audience. “But I’m also going to go out on a limb and say it’s one of the most powerful and meaningful depictions of an American tradition."

At the premiere, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex posed with the film's director, Alysa Nahmias, as well as with some of the Girl Scouts the film follows through the organization's iconic cookie-selling season.

Meghan and Nahmis also spoke with PEOPLE on the red carpet, sharing why the message of the documentary resonated with them as creative women and as mothers.

“For me, as a mom — and with my kids asking me to make a film that they and their friends would really want to watch — I hope it sparks conversations about what it means to grow up today, and opens up questions that can be difficult to have,” Nahmias said. “About the pressures that kids can feel from parents and society, especially girls — how we’re perceived, what our value is, and how we participate in the economy and in society.”

Meghan agreed, telling PEOPLE, "There’s nothing you can add to that. It’s the most perfect answer because it’s so true. That’s what she’s created with this. It’s incredible filmmaking, and I can’t wait for you to see it. I think people are going to love it.”

As for her favorite Girl Scout cookie, the Duchess of Sussex admitted that she's partial to Thin Mints.

“It’s such a classic," she said with a smile. "And as a Girl Scout, it was always the one that sold the fastest, so I think you remember it for that reason too."

Sundance isn't the first time Meghan has embraced a friendship bracelet moment in support of a cause close to her heart.

When she joined Harry at his 2023 Invictus Games in Duesseldorf, Germany, the duchess revealed that she had been sent a bracelet by a competitor who was unable to make it to the event. The bracelet read "I Am Invictus," a reference to one of the mottos of the Games, a biennial sporting competition for wounded and disabled military veterans from around the world.

"So many people at home are rooting for you," Meghan told the crowd at the Invictus "Friends @ Home Event" on Sept. 12, 2023. "Thank you, and look forward to a fantastic week. I can't wait until one day to bring our kids so they can experience how fantastic it is."
