Have you made any New Yearās resolutions for 2026? I made one simple resolution: to read more. Judging by former Today show host Katie Couricās recent social media post, Iām not alone. Couric, too, is determined to read more books in 2026. Last year delivered a stellar list of bestsellers and standout releases, and 2026 is sure to bring even more great novels our way. With so many good recent titles to choose from, the hardest part of pledging to read more books is finding the time.
Couric got a jump start on her resolution by kicking off the year with one of 2025ās biggest sleeper hits. She writes:
āHi everyone and HNY!!! My resolution for this year is to read more books. My goal is at least one a month (I know I know, I was going to say a week but I donāt want to set myself up for failure!) Iām trying to spend less time scrolling and more time reading. So I was thinkingā¦should we do a book club? I like so many people on this platform (not all..you know who you are if you havenāt been blocked š) I thought it might be fun. I can try to get the authors to do an IG live with us after weāve read the book! What do you think? š¤ I am reading āThe Correspondent.ā The protagonist reminds me a little of Olive Kitteridge (I love Elizabeth Strout) and I donāt want this book to end. @virginia.l.evans are you out there? Anyway let me know what you think and we can figure out the book to read together! Fun???? I think fun!!! And I honestly (ironically) need to spend less time on this platform. Okay, Couric out.ā

So letās talk about The Correspondent.
Released on April 29, 2025, The Correspondent by Virginia Evans tells the story of Sybil Van Antwerp, a woman in her 70s whose life unfolds through letters she writes to family, friends, and literary figures as she reflects on her relationships and past. The novel quickly became a New York Times bestseller and was widely considered a breakout hit of 2025, driven in part by strong word of mouth.
Named one of the most checked-out books in public libraries in 2025, The Correspondent has been praised for its emotional depth and immersive storytelling.

Katie Couricās Next Chapter
A familiar face on morning television, Katie Couric served as a co-anchor on NBCās Today show from 1991 to 2006. Since departing Today, Couric has anchored the CBS Evening News, hosted her own syndicated talk show, Katie, and served as a global anchor for Yahoo! News.
Couric later co-founded Katie Couric Media, which produces a daily newsletter, podcasts, and social media content. Now, the former morning show anchor appears to be considering joining the ranks of Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon by launching her own book club.
Do you think she should?
