How To Make Katie’s Go-To Wellness Shot
As the season of sore throats and stuffy noses rolls in, many of us are doubling down on habits that help us feel our best. Some of us are prioritizing rest, while others are heading outside regardless of the cold. No matter your preference, these small, daily choices can go a long way — and if you're longing to add something extra nourishing to your chosen routine, we have a particularly vibrant suggestion.
Our very own Katie Couric has been whipping up ginger-turmeric shots that are so bright and flavorful, they feel like a sip of sunshine. The shots — which are shockingly easy to make — are bursting with citrusy brightness and warming spice. They deliver a concentrated hit of flavor while offering an easy, energizing way to support your wellness goals. Katie uses ginger, which is jam-packed with antioxidants and may also have anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric also boasts some amazing benefits: A 2020 study found that the root has anti-inflammatory properties. Plus, lemon and orange juice will boost your vitamin C intake in the tastiest fashion. All it takes is one quick shot to see why this zippy blend has become a staple in Katie's daily routine — and why you might want to make it part of yours, too.

Katie Couric's Ginger-Turmeric ShotsIngredients -
2 lemons
4 small oranges
1 large piece of ginger
A couple of knobs of turmeric
½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper
Black pepper
1 tablespoon of maple syrup
Water
Instructions -
Peel lemons and oranges. Remove skin and pith before adding the citrus to the blender.
Use a spoon to peel the ginger. Once peeled, slice the ginger and add it to the blender. Peel the turmeric with a spoon, slice it, and add it to the blender as well.
Add ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper and a dash of black pepper to the blender.
Add a tablespoon of maple syrup to the blender; add enough water to help the ingredients come together smoothly, then blend.
After blending, strain the mixture through cheesecloth or a mesh strainer.
Pour the shots into small containers and store them in the fridge — they’ll stay fresh for up to a week.
