Emma Stone will forever cherish the many lessons that Diane Keaton taught her.

Stone, 37, opened up about the late actress in W Magazine's Best Performances Issue 2026, admitting she was "getting choked up" at just the thought of Keaton, who died at the age of 79 on Oct. 11, 2025, from pneumonia.

"She will always be my North Star, ultimate hero, because she taught me about not wanting to emulate anyone else, including her," Stone shared. "She taught me how valuable it is to the world to realize who you are and what you can contribute."

"In so many facets, not just as the brilliant actor that she was, but as a director, photographer, curator of coffee table books, a person who made wines — she was just so herself," Stone continued. "Houses, fashion, everything about her was one-of-a-kind and completely Diane. She's the person who really made me realize that the most valuable thing you can be is yourself, authentically. She was the best ever."

Stone noted that the First Wives Club actress was "just so alive."

"I think life in general is very tragic and very funny at the same time. You're holding both things, typically, in the state of the world, in relationships, all of it," she said. "It's all kind of a tragic comedy. Anyone who can really channel that and bring it out the way that she did, it's just a gift to us all."

In 2015, Keaton chatted with Stone for Interview, where the two actresses discussed the latter's rising star and what it meant to have fans.

"I don’t feel any different from anyone. I am such a diehard fan — as you of all people should know. [laughs] I know what it is to be a fan," Stone told Keaton.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Stone and Keaton also talked about beauty and style, with Stone telling her, "Our tastes are pretty similar. Based on your book and what I’ve seen on your Pinterest board."

"The more unique, the better," the La La Land star continued. "When you feel that a person is being true to how they want to look or what their face is, I think there’s something about the acceptance of oneself that I can feel from people. That tends to be what I’m attracted to."

Following news of Keaton's "unexpected" death in October, dozens of celebrities paid tribute to the Annie Hall star — from Sarah Paulson, to Goldie Hawn, and, most recently, Chelsea Handler.
