Ellen DeGeneres is marking her birthday with a message to fans.

The comedian, who turned 68 on Monday, Jan. 26, shared a snap to Instagram of herself and her wife Portia de Rossi to commemorate her latest birthday.

In her post, DeGeneres recognized that it's "a tough day to feel like celebrating a birthday."

"I’m holding space for what’s happening in our world and holding close what I’m grateful for," DeGeneres wrote in her caption. "Like my wife. And cookies."

The Instagram selfie showed DeGeneres in a green sweater and with her arm around de Rossi, 52, who could be seen enjoying a cookie. In the comments section, the former daytime host got some birthday love from a few of her famous pals.

"Happy Birthday," wrote podcaster Jay Shetty. "You deserve to be celebrated 🙏🙏🙏." Meanwhile, HGTV star Nate Berkus posted four red heart emojis.

DeGeneres' birthday post comes shortly after she shared a video of Alex Pretti, the ICU nurse who was shot and killed by federal officers in Minneapolis on Saturday, Jan. 24.

"This is Alex Pretti," DeGeneres captioned the clip, which featured the ICU nurse paying tribute to one of his patients at Minneapolis’ VA Medical Center in December 2024.

A week prior, DeGeneres made a rare public political statement on Sunday, Jan. 18, by posting about the fatal Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis as well. The 37-year-old mother of three was shot and killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on Wednesday, Jan. 7. In a lengthy video message, the comedian said she was "so sorry for what is happening in Minneapolis and our country."

"So my thoughts and my prayers are going out to everyone, and I'm proud of everyone who's protesting peacefully, and I am sorry for anyone who has been hurt just for protesting, for doing what you should be doing," DeGeneres said.

DeGeneres' birthday comes the same month as de Rossi, who will celebrate her 53rd birthday on Jan. 31. In 2025, DeGeneres commemorated her wife's latest birthday, referring to de Rossi as her "brilliant beautiful hilarious adventurous wife" in a post.
