Brooklyn confirmed his ongoing rift with his parents and siblings in a series of Instagram Stories shared on Jan. 19. Among the 26-year-old Cloud23 founder's statements were comments condemning his family’s alleged treatment of his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, whom he married in April 2022.

“The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose and have found peace and relief. My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family."
Later in his statement, Brooklyn wrote, "I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.

Reps for David and Victoria have not returned PEOPLE's request for comment.
A source told PEOPLE that "Brooklyn has no regrets about speaking out publicly against his parents. He, Nicola and the Peltzes are firm and happy in their stance." The insider added, "He's standing in his convictions. He feels right to be saying what he is saying."
Amid the family's ongoing rift, a source with knowledge of the situation previously told PEOPLE, “David and Victoria have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward."
"David loves his kids," the insider added. "They are his everything."
"The relationship is definitely not beyond repair," an insider told PEOPLE last May. "They love and are always there for [Brooklyn]. They’re just hurt and disappointed that he’s now playing no part in family life."
David appeared to break his silence on the matter during his appearance on CNBC’s financial program Squawk Box on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Discussing social media and mental health following Brooklyn’s statement the previous day, he said that kids had “made mistakes.”
“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media. For the good and for the bad,” he began.
In reference to his children, he said, "And I have tried to do the same, I’ve tried to do the same with my children, to educate them,” adding, “They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.”
Victoria made her first public outing since her eldest's bombshell confession at Emma Bunton's 50th birthday party on Jan. 24. At the Cotswolds, England, affair, Victoria reunited with all but one of her former Spice Girls groupmates, including Melanie "Mel C" and Geri Halliwell-Horner.
She shared a photo of the group on Instagram on Sunday, Jan. 25, writing, "Happy birthday to the most beautiful soul @emmaleebunton I love you girls so much @gerihalliwellhorner @melaniecmusic xxxxxxx."
