Bella Thorne revealed to PEOPLE why she hasn't set a wedding date yet

The singer-actress got engaged to Mark Emms in May 2023

Thorne proposed to Emms in August 2025

Bella Thorne is still in the early stages of wedding planning.

Thorne, 28, and her fiancé, Mark Emms, got engaged when Emms popped the question in May 2023, and again in August 2025 when the actress-singer got down on one knee herself. Although it's been about two-and-a-half years since the first proposal, Thorne explained to PEOPLE why she and Emms haven't made much wedding planning progress.

"I do not have a date yet," Thorne said atThe Hollywood Reporter's Annual Women in Entertainment Gala on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

The Shake It Up alum explained that preparations for her nuptials will likely start once she and Emms clear their work schedules. Thorne is wrapping her film Color Your Hurt and will focus on the upcoming Spring Breakers sequel next.

"I just directed a movie that I wrote, and so that is currently our baby, our child," Thorne said. "And I think once we're done with that, and the next project that we have Spring Breakers, then we can plan."

She continued, "Yeah. I feel like everything has to be perfect at the same time. If a bunch of sh-- goes wrong, I'm like, 'Eh, as long as you're happy.' "

Emms proposed to Thorne at the bride-to-be's home in California on May 13, presenting her with a "10-plus-carat emerald-cut diamond ring with baguettes flanking the center stone," according to Vogue. The pair celebrated with their family afterward.

At the time, Thorne told the magazine that she was envisioning a countryside wedding at a manor in the U.K., where Emms is from. She also had her sights set on vintage Schiaparelli or Dior for her wedding dress – or dresses. "Every bride does not need one gown, but four!" Thorne said.

Speaking to PEOPLE in December 2023, Thorne said that ever since getting engaged, the couple’s relationship has only “heightened,” and that every day they “draw closer.”

“It's really like, ‘Oh wow, we're really, you're my partner.’ Let's do this together,” she said. “So that kind of becomes more real every day, and kind of solidifies our partnership more and more every day.”
