Ashton Kutcher has alleged that fashion visionary Tom Ford once fired him from a modeling gig over his body type.

In a new interview for his upcoming TV series The Beauty, which follows a group of people who take a transformative substance in pursuit of physical perfection, the actor and former model opened up about his own struggle with image in the entertainment industry.

"It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like. I started modeling when I was 19. I was hanging out with what I considered to be some of the most beautiful people in the world. What I realized really quickly was that everybody had an insecurity. Everybody," Kutcher told Entertainment Tonight. "You look in the mirror long enough, you'll find something you don't like, or that you think could be better, or you think could be different."

He reflected on his early days as a runway model, revealing that he was once booked for an "exclusive campaign for Gucci when Tom Ford was running it," and that he flew to Italy to prepare for the runway show.

"He puts me in, like, a pink Speedo. I was 178 pounds. I know exactly how much I weighed: 178 pounds. He was like, 'He's too fat,' and I got fired," Kutcher admitted.

The star went on to say that "Tom had a specific thing he wanted to see," and that the pair have a sense of humor about the situation years later.

"I laugh with him about it now. He's like, 'You were too fat.' I was like, dude, I was 178 pounds, what are you talking about?" Kutcher continued. "But, he had a specific thing he wanted to see that in his eye was the right thing. It didn't mean I was less, it just meant that I wasn't that for him, for that moment."

The 47-year-old related the story back to the new series, telling ET, "If you could build insecurities about those things over time, and I think everybody has those. It really does not matter who you are, everybody's got an insecurity."

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a representative for Ford for comment.

In his ET interview, Kutcher also made a rare public comment about his ex-wife, Demi Moore, after many fans compared the themes of the comic book adaptation The Beauty to those found in Moore's Oscar-winning film The Substance, in which Moore played an aging actress who takes a mysterious medication that unleashes a new, younger version of herself into the world.

"Demi's performance in The Substance, obviously she got extraordinary accolades. I'm so proud of her, she killed it," Kutcher said, praising Moore, whom he was married to from 2005 to 2013.

The Beauty debuts Jan. 21 on Hulu on Disney+. Watch Kutcher recall being fired from a Gucci fashion show in the video above.
