AC Milan coach Max Allegri said Christian Pulisic is in line to start Thursday's game against Genoa despite continuing to battle a hamstring injury.
Pulisic originally suffered the injury with the U.S. men's national team in October, forcing him to miss a month of action.
The forward has dealt with the issue since his return in November, missing a game against Lazio on Nov. 29. Pulisic returned quickly from that setback, scoring three goals in his next three games.
The issue came up again last week as Pulisic was only able to make a late appearance off the bench in Friday's win over Cagliari.
That victory moved Milan up to second place in Serie A, just a point behind Inter. The Rossoneri have put together an excellent campaign despite their two biggest attacking stars, Pulisic and Rafael Leão, starting just one game together due to injuries.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Allegri said he was hopeful that the pair would be able to start their second match together at Genoa.
“We'll see," Allegri said. "They've played about 20 minutes together. If everything goes well today and tomorrow morning, they should be in the starting lineup.
"They're not at peak condition. Pulisic has a hamstring problem that is still bothering him from time to time. Leão has an adductor [injury], but everyone has to play well as a team. These months are important to get to March, calmly and patiently, in the best possible condition.”
Despite missing several games with his injury, Pulisic still leads Milan in goals this season with 10 in all competitions. Leão is second on the team with seven, while no other player has more than three.
